The primary goal of this course is to effectively enable students to use English in various situations as well as in an academic environment. Substantial course time will be spent on improving students' English language skills. Listening instruction focuses on improving lecture comprehension and note-taking skills as well as everyday English listening comprehension. The listening and speaking component is integrated with classroom presentations given by the instructor and consists of guided practice in oral participation in class with small group discussions as well as practice in giving oral presentations (group and individual) of various types. Some attention will also be given to pronunciation accuracy and the communication of meaning through stress and intonation.

ACTIVE PARTICIPATION is your (a) willingness to involve yourself in every class activity; and (b) your level of interest and motivation to create, expand and express your ideas, thoughts, feelings and questions.
ASSIGNMENTS These will include giving oral presentations, short essay writing assignments and quizzes.
REGULAR ATTENDANCE is required; missing 1/3 of the class meetings gives you a grade of F. Be in class on time and for the whole period; 3 times late equals 1 time absent.
EXAMS may include any activities, exercises or materials studied in class.
