Slang English Club Activity

Me & my Honny

Modern English contains much coded language within its popular song lyrics, situation comedies, television dramas and movies. The term coded language can be described as words and phrases with double or even hidden meanings that native speakers of that language may understand but second language learners have difficulty understanding. Coded language can be easily found in everyday routine discourse, professional jargon, media, movies, and the popular music of a country or a global language such as English. Slang, idioms and euphemisms form the content of coded language. The theme and goal of this Club Activity is to teach students how to decipher, discuss and completely comprehend native English coded words, phrases, expressions and underlining meanings within most popular forms of English media and entertainment.
